CAPTAIN WHIDBEY

Since 1907, Captain Whidbey has been a locus of natural beauty, community gathering and quiet, exalted delight. A place where locals and visitors do things together — even if those things are simply eating, drinking, appreciating nature, looking out across the water, feeling alive, feeling grateful.

Captain Whidbey is the Unofficial Official Lodge of Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve. The gateway to beautiful and rugged wild, Captain Whidbey fosters a sense of romance, a longing for adventure and a communion with the natural world.

Captain Whidbey sits on 6 acres and hosts guests in 30 room mix of traditional hotel rooms, historic lodge quarters and distinct waterfront cabins. The Restaurant at Captain Whidbey is situated on the ground level of the historic lodge and spills out overlooking Penn Cove. The resort has its own private dock for seafaring guests, events and seaward activities.

PIONEERTOWN MOTEL

Pioneertown Motel exists at the nexus of this desert culture — a melange of outsider art, culture and philosophy, kitsch and caricature, wild, natural beauty, resourcefulness, spiritual searching, rock n’ roll and the proverbial “Escape from LA”. No flourish or fanfare is needed — its unique history provides it already. Always intended to be a representation of a period in time which never really existed, Pioneertown evokes the spirit of the American West, though the definition of what that means continually shifts.

Though only a few minutes from Yucca Valley, and a few more from the glitz and fanfare of Palm Springs, Pioneertown feels a world away. Tucked up between craggy mountains off highway 62, Pioneertown feels quieter, and somehow a bit cooler, from the towns below. There’s a security knowing you’re not far off, but a convincing solitude and remoteness nonetheless. You are safe, but you are free — a rare and utterly appealing sensation.

The Pioneertown Motel was built in 1946 as a headquarters for Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and the likes as they films hundreds of Westerns in Pioneertown. The 19-room motel has been carefully and thoughtfully restored with local craftspeople and artists. A short stroll away sits the motel’s lobby bar— the Red Dog Saloon.

THE RESTAURANT AT CAPTAIN WHIDBEY

The Restaurant at Captain Whidbey offers a fresh and reimagined menu full of locally sourced ingredients and Pacific Northwest delights. Our goal is to give our guests a taste of Whidbey’s best and most seasonal offerings. From the bar, we have a new cocktail program for you to enjoy while cozied up by our 100-year-old lobby fireplace.

RED DOG SALOON

Built in 1946 in the heart of Pioneertown, California, the Red Dog Saloon is the epicenter of Western Film culture. Pioneertown was founded and developed by Hollywood heavy-hitters Gene Autry and Roy Rogers. In true Old West fashion, the singing cowboys built the saloon first and the film set second. The Red Dog Saloon has seen many lives since the 1940s and sits atop an enviable book of history. Today, the saloon offers fresh Tex-Mex cuisine and an expertly curated mix of draft cocktails in addition to a deep bench of Mezcals and Whiskies.

THE COPPER ROOM

The Copper Room opened in 1957 and lived many lives before returning to its original roots in 2022. In its heyday, high rollers would fly in for dinner and drinks in their Cessnas and Pipers, ordering martinis and steaks ahead from the air. It hosted celebrity-filled events, such as the crowning of Honorary Mayor Jimmy Van Heusen in 1967. Van Heusen was a famous Academy Award winning composer best known for his work with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Cahn, including their 1958 hit "Come Fly With Me."

The Copper Room days gave way to the Red Baron Steakhouse in the 1970's, which beckoned rock and roll legend Gram Parsons' to its curved runway-adjacent bar. Gram would often spend Friday afternoons at the bar enjoying strong margaritas with a rotating crew of musicians and friends. With an emphasis on fresh ingredients, the Copper Room offers shareable dishes and an aviation-inspired cocktail program. Enjoy a dusty martini on the runway, with or without a boarding pass.

THE RED CABIN

Built in 1946, the Red Cabin is located right on Mane Street and was originally built as the land sale office for Pioneertown. This gem of a cabin was recently purchased and renovated by the nearby Pioneertown Motel. It is truly one of the coziest, most rustic, and charming cabins in Pioneertown. A quick walk to Pappy and Harriet's and the Motel, the cabin is perched right on Mane Street with stunning views, a porch for carrying on, and a wood fired stove. What more can you ask for.
